Casting three runes is probably the most common technique used for divination and oracle consultation. Only very complicated and involved concerns need more than a three rune casting.
Traditionally a cloth kept just for casting is laid out to receive the runes. It need not be a cloth. It could be a wooden tablet or a table. You are preparing an area specifically for doing rune magic. Spreading a cloth focuses an area for magic. This makes it easier for the rune caster to center his energies on only this one task.
After preparing the casting ground, the issue or concern is brought to mind, as explained in "Divination and Oracle Consultation". Once the reason for casting is decided, place your hand into the bag of runes and move them between your fingers. After a time, one rune will find its way into your hand. You will notice it more than the others. Place it on the cloth with the symbol facing down, Do this two more times placing each rune to the left of the last one.
