Eventually, with normal use, you will understand and know each rune. However, knowing a rune in a magical sense is more than remembering the meanings of each rune. It is even more than understanding what a rune interpretation is telling you. To efficiently use a rune in ritual magic or consulting, you need to know that rune at all levels, mentally, emotionally and intuitively.
To create a rune on the astral level, your imagery must include emotion. Simply picturing the elemental forces of a rune is not enough. Any real power on the astral level is based on emotion. Mental logic may control our personal power, but emotion creates it. Without emotion, ritual magic is very weak and ineffective. You need to feel the forces of the rune. The light of the rune, Wunjo, must create a feeling of joy as it shines through you. The destructive power of a storm must thrill you (or frighten you) before the rune Hagalaz will work for you.
Each rune has its own forces that must touch you emotionally or you will miss the power of that rune.

Intuition comes from listening to that little, often ignored, voice mentioned earlier. Your higher Self understands much more than your conscious lower self. Listen to that little voice while using the runes and you will increase your ability to use rune magic. The small subtle meaning will become clear.
Sometimes that voice will make no logical sense. That is because the higher Self sees more than logic can understand. Listen and you will start using all of your senses.
