DIVINATION AND ORACLE CONSULTATION

These two areas of rune magic have been placed together because the only real difference between them is who is being consulted. Divination is a means of consulting the Divine, something or someone more spiritually evolved than ourselves. Oracle consultation refers to asking our higher Self. The higher Self is that part of us that remembers and understands all that we have experienced. This Self is under constant guidance from the Divine, and is that small voice in the back of our minds that most of us ignore or seldom hear. It is usually impossible to tell where the guidance is coming from, either the Divine or your-Self, so here they will be treated in the same manner.

With divination, your future is not being forecast. Fate is not a static preset course of events. Even the most minor choice can drastically alter your future. Consulting the runes is only giving guidance; the underlying reasons for what is happening are revealed. You will then have a better understanding of your life and can live it as you choose, no longer simply reacting to what happens.

But remember, it is still your choice, so it is still your responsibility. The runes never make you do anything. They are simply a tool, potentially a very powerful tool, but still only a tool.

With ritual magic, elemental powers are being evoked, thus a great deal of seriousness is needed. With divination, or rune casting, a more playful attitude can be used. The powers are knowledge and understanding rather than elemental. You are not gathering forces that must be dealt with.
