A Divine force (or forces) known by many names rules the universe. Many religions have formed to help us understand this Divinity. This force controls the creation of everything within the universe, including us, by using physical laws.
These laws put order into our world. Everything around us is under the reign of these laws. Without them, the universe would still be in a state of chaos.
Many of these laws are obvious, such as the law of gravity or the laws governing fire. Other laws are harder to see. The law of mental attraction, used to draw each runic power towards you, is often hard to detect. It takes practice before results can be seen.
Each elemental power represented by the Runes follows these same laws, and these forces always follow the laws in the same way. Every time the conditions are right, a thunderstorm will produce lightning and rain. The storm has no conscious choice in the matter. The laws always determine the outcome. We, however, do have a choice. We have a mind that can use these laws. With them, we can create anything we can imagine. Our only restraint is knowledge. With the creation of our minds, the Divine have given us potential control over our world. By using the laws of mind, we can guide the elemental forces of our universe, for the laws of mind are what ritual magic is based on. Through centuries of trial and error, the Germanic shamans have developed methods of imaging, based on the laws of mind, that do work. These imaging rituals insure that the laws are followed every time. To completely know the Runes, you must also know the laws of mind, for that is how Runes are used. The laws of mind are too complex to explain in entirety here, but a few basic principles may help with ritual magic.
